Right attitude towards learning

Right attitude towards learning

You must possess an interest in learning to learn more. With higher interest, the processing of information at the time of learning becomes more profound. A more in-depth knowledge will make students learn and remember things better. When we are interested in a thing, it tends to make us show much effort, and the processing of the topics is automatic. For example, when you read your favourite book. You tend to absorb all the information in that book because you pay more attention and you give more effort to read it. But in studying, interest is not the only thing that we need. We need to have good attitudes in learning. And this article will tell you those attitudes you need.

Here are some attitudes one must possess to make learning productive.

A student should:

1)       Be patient. To be able to learn productively, you must be patient in learning. Studying is not easy work. It requires much time to be able to learn more. You must think that studying is a long and continual process which requires much time. It is not an activity where you can be productive at only by spending your spare time at it. You must be patient. Here are some ways to be patient.

  • Be aware of when you are impatient. Writing it in a journal would be a good idea. If you will know when and in what things you get impatient will make you prepare for it.
  • Overcome those things that make you impatient. Trying to prepare for those things and eventually overcoming them will make you know how to control it and deal with it.
  • Continually assess and remind yourself that doing things needs time to be done. Sometimes you can never finish things at your discretion. There are some instances where you don’t have the grasp on time.
  • Expect the unexpected.  Yes, you have plans, but things don’t always work out as we plan. Accept the twist and turns in life gracefully. Keep your expectations realistic. This applies not only to circumstances but also the behaviour of those around you.
  • Have some break. Studying at a long time will make you lose focus and eventually make you impatient. Have breaks. Relax your mind and body.
  • Always remember that you will be able to do what you want to do. Remember that at some time, you will learn what you want to learn.
2)     Be consistent. You must have the right study habits. Studying requires regular activities which will help you prepare your mind. Consistency will make you do things all over again without hesitating.
3)    Have goals. Setting goals will help you study more and eventually learn more. Having goals motivates you. It drives the student to study more and learn more. Setting goals such as to be able to support your immediate family and your family in the future, to top in the class, and etc. will surely make you strive more.
4)    Thinks positive. Thinking negatively will build your confidence low and will also make you find it hard to study. Thinking positive will tend to make us confident. The brain will be able to handle the pressure and will work in its higher efficiency. Here are some tips to make your thoughts positive.
  • Make a real commitment to yourself. Thinking positive within you will make you feel positive.
  • Be confident. If you studied well, you would surely have enough knowledge regarding your studies. Be sure to answer questions and also be convinced that you will be able to learn the things that you must learn at school. Never hesitate to learn new things.
  • Make sure you keep your mind focused on important things.  Develop a strategy when you are dealing with issues and obstacles.
  • Dream about your success. Aim high, do your best and don’t look back.
  • Maintain your physical and mental wellbeing.
5)    Be punctual. Early birds tend to get the food first. Just like in learning, those studies early will gain the knowledge he needs at school. Never be late in school because your instructor’s discussions will give you more.
  • Ready the things you need in going to school. Prepare them during night time to avoid the hassle in finding them for tomorrow. It is also a way of saving time.
  • Be time conscious. As they say “time is gold”. Treating time as limited as it is will make you do more and learn more. Setting a time table will work.
6)    Be friendly. Having more friends that are always there for you will make you learn more. Asking a question to them and even just having simple conversations with them will give you knowledge.
7)    Be open-minded. You must open your mind to any suggestions and comments. Discussions will provide you with an assessment of what you have learned. Limiting your account on things that you believed to be right is not a good attitude. Open your mind on new things and explore more.
8)    Be curious. Curiosity will increase your interest in things. This will motivate you to explore more and learn more about things. If you lack curiosity, you will find it hard to study more about new things. Your mindsets on just remembering what you learn and not on what to learn.
The attitude of study and the scores of examination have a delicate relationship with each other. If we want to achieve good results in the test, we must have the right attitude to study.
If we have these attitudes, learning would be easy and comfortable. Learn how to nurture these attitudes and expect to have productive learning at school.

A good Study Habit for College Students

Study Habits for College Students

What do study habits mean? Study habit refers to the habitual or synchronized study times of students. It refers to the schedule of a student when to study. It serves as a guide to a student, guiding him the proper time to study. As we all know, studying needs a lot of time and focus. It is a planned activity.

Having good study habits makes one’s time productive. Developing a good study habit make you better for studying and eventually helps you to be a successful student. One must also think that studying is not all about passing an examination. It is also about self-progress. Learning new things is an exciting activity. This should what a student should think. An excellent study habit is needed for those who aspire to do great in their class.
Here are some tips on having a good study habit.

Students should:

1.    Take it one at a time

Do not abuse your brain. Tiring yourself would not be sufficient. Learn how to relax and prioritize things. Take breaks if you feel tired. Watching television, chatting with friends, and playing games are not the proper way to relax because it makes your focus and concentration in studying slip away.

2.    Have a specific time for studying

Knowing what time you are most productive would be a good start. You should see if you study effectively during the day, night, or in between. If you force yourself in studying at times, you are not comfortable would just be a waste of time. To study at times where you can focus well will become productive time. And if you already know the best time where you are useful in studying, you should set that time all throughout the weeks for your study time.

3.    Study at the same time each day

Studying at the same time each day establishes a daily routine. Having only your spare time in studying will not be productive at first because your mind will not be prepared. Preparations need to be done before studying, our brain needs to be set for a long term study time, just like sleeping and eating. Analyzing every day, even if it is just scanning the book, will help you in the long run. It will make your brain familiarize things. Unlike those who study only a day before an exam, they will end up procrastinating. Scheduling your study time every day will make you prevent delaying.

4.    Know where to study

Concentration is one of the keys to a better study habit. Studying in a place where there are many distractions will not be productive.  Some may find computers, television, and some unrelated things to schools attractive than learning materials such as books. The best place to study is in a place where it is minimal or even no distractions at all. Like libraries, study hall or in a quiet area. As you find the proper place to study, also try to make that place as your permanent study place. Studying in a place where you considered as your own will make you comfortable, which will make you concentrate more on studying.

5.    Know how to study

Knowing how to study is a big deal. It will assure productive time for studying. Some students tend to study just by scanning books, reading the whole day, memorizing every word in the book, and even fasting because some say fasting during studying will make your brain process faster. But this activity is actually wrong. Reading the whole day would be an effective way of studying, but it has a side effect. It tires your brain out. Also memorizing a lot, word by word, is a waste of time. It has a significant probability that if you tend to learn things in studying, you might not really understand what you are considering. Studying the whole day is an excellent way to study, but you also need to relax at some point.  According to some research, studying 20-50 minute periods followed by breaks (5-10 minutes) is the most effective way of studying.

6.    Follow what he has planned

Studying on time will tend to make you save time. Do not delay your study times because it will also make you procrastinate. Procrastination is putting off or avoiding doing something that must be done. You should be conscious of time in studying. Time is significant in studying. As you save more time, it also gives you more time reviewing the lesson again. Reviewing adds, correct, and confirms the things that you already studied. It’s just having the chance of mastering what you studied. You must develop the attitude of being time conscious. It is not only needed in school, but also in your daily life.

7.    Have all the materials required?

Having things that are not needed in your study place will eventually become a distraction. Things like the computer will cause too much disturbance. As we all know, computers can do so many different things. You should put away those things and focus on what you want to accomplish. Have all the materials needed intact to avoid wasting time. Some students lose their focus as they search for the materials they need, which will make them also lose their interest in studying. In studies, as much as possible, avoid doing unnecessary things because it will make you lose your concentration.

8.  Ask questions

Two heads may be better than one. Asking questions will make you know more and learn more. Try to ask your friends and maybe your teachers, if you have any contact with them. Asking questions would not make you look dumb. As a matter of fact, those students who ask a question have a big opportunity in learning more. As they say, intelligent people are those who are curious, and those people who are interested are those who ask questions. Hence, those who ask questions are those who will be intelligent in the future.

9.  Join group studies

Joining a group in studying will give you more knowledge. A group, which has members who share the same aspirations, will be the best group to be with. You must think that it is effective to study alone, but it is more effective to study in a group. A group discussion will tend to give you the additional information that you missed while studying alone.

10.  Stay healthy

This is the most important thing a student must consider. Health is essential in the sense that it is fundamental in studying. How can you study if you are ill? How can your brain function effectively if your body is in pain? How can you take an exam if your body can’t move and restricted? These are the questions that will make you realize why health is essential.
These are the ten very effective tips. Have a good study habit and eventually you will enjoy excellent performance in school. Follow these tips with passion and interest in studying, as these are the things that serve as a fuel in your study habits.
